Solarvibes is a project funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the EU.

This project aims to respond to current agricultural problems using modern technical tools. Due to the world’s increasing population and climate change, farmers are facing numerous other challenges in addition to increasingly extreme weather conditions. A decision supporting system has been designed to help them, which provides information of soil conditions on specific areas and also can assess the health of the crops on the given area.

The aim of Solarvibes is to put technology into practice. This technology should be suitable for:

  • Determining the temperature, pH, humidity, salt concentration and nutrient concentration of the soil.

  • Using a smart phone app and artificial intelligence to assess the health of crops.

  • Providing advice for farmers, considering the history of the soil and the effects of the surrounding vegetation.

  • Optimizing the amount of input substances applied, as well as the timing of sowing, harvesting, and treatment with plant protection products.

ÖMKi coordinates on-farm testing of the sensors. By the summer of 2020, 500 sensors will have been installed on Hungarian farms, and ÖMKi will have collected and shared the experiences gained with these sensors with other farms that are not participating in the testing.

If you would like to try this system on your farm for free, you can apply as a testing volunteer with Bence Trugly by email (bence.trugly@biokutatas.hu) or phone (+3620/296-3229).

This project is funded by KATANA (Emerging industries as key enablers for the adoption of advanced technologies in the agrifood sector, Horizon 2020 project No. 691478), under the funding framework of the European Commission.
