Funding: Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, European Union

Coordinator: FiBL Switzerland - Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau – Swiss Research Institute of Organic Agriculture

Time period: May 2018 - April 2022

Consortium partners: 29 partners participate from 12 European countries

As a system approach to sustainable agriculture, organic farming aims to effectively manage ecological processes whilst lowering dependence on off-farm inputs.

The RELACS project partners will evaluate far-advanced and new solutions to further reduce the use of external inputs and, if needed, develop and adopt cost-efficient and environmentally safe tools and technologies to:

- Reduce the use of copper and mineral oil in plant protection,
- Identify sustainable sources for plant nutrition, and
- Provide solutions to support livestock health and welfare.

The project was developed by involving actors from research, farming, advisory services and industry from the very start hence implementing a truly multi-actor approach. RELACS has 29 partners from twelve countries.

ÖMKi is conducting a survey on the current use of copper in Hungarian agriculture, as well as examining the on-farm effectiveness of a potential copper replacement, tagatose, in combatting peronospora and phytophthora during grape and tomato cultivation. It is also investigating the extent to which those engaged in organic crop production in Hungary employ nutrients from external sources, assessing the available nutrient sources, and examining the recycling and reuse techniques which can be employed to create nutrient replenishment products. It is presently participating in the development of strategies for the removal of questionable input materials.

The RELACS project is funded by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union under project number GA 773431.
